KENNESAW, Ga.---The Chattanooga Mocs are fifth through 36 holes of the Pinetree Collegiate. The quartet opened with 297 at Pinetree Country Club before coming back with 306 over the day's second 18.
Daphne van Son and Esme Hamilton led the early round with 1-over 73s. Beatriz Barrios chipped in a 74 with 77 from Dorota Zalewska. Barrios came back with 73 in the afternoon 18 ahead of 77 by van Son and 78s by Hamilton and Zalewska.
Barrios is tied for eighth with a total of 3-over 147. Van Son is next tied for 20th at 150. She's looking for her third straight top 20 while Barrios is searching for back-to-back top 5s. Hamilton is tied for 26th, one behind van Son and four clear of Zalewska at 155.
The Mocs had three eagles including two hole outs. Van Son went back-to-back in round one for a bit of history becoming the first in program history to go eagle-eagle. She holed her second shot on the par 4 16th (hole four of her day in a shotgun start) from 116 out with a pitching wedge. That was followed by driver-5 wood-15 foot putt on the par 5 16th.
Barrios got into the act in round two. She was 29 holes in when she sized up her second on the par 4 third. Barrios collected a deuce with a pitching wedge from 106 for the third eagle of the day which is one more than the team scored all year entering the tourney.
Florida State (576) takes a 5-stroke lead into tomorrow's final round ahead of host Kennesaw State (581). The Seminoles' Beatrice Wallin is the individual leader at 5-under 139.
