The Mets fell 10-2 on Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium after the Fish notched 15 hits off of New York’s pitching staff.

The bullpen was lit up by Miami. Dellin Betances was the only Met to escape with a clean frame, tossing a 1-2-3 sixth inning.

The offense fell flat with just two run scored, both via solo home runs, on six hits. They left six on base and went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.

ON THE MOUND

Mike Montgomery got the start for New York and threw only 2/3 of the first inning. The Marlins struck early with four runs on four hits off of the lefty.

Back-to-back one out doubles by Starling Marte and Jesus Aguilar drove in the first Miami run of the afternoon. They picked up another on Garrett Cooper RBI single, and he reached second on a fielding error by Albert Almora Jr.

Montgomery continued to struggle with his command. He walked Brian Anderson for first and second, and allowed a single to Adam Duvall that drove in Cooper and put Anderson into scoring position.

The pair of runners took second and third on a wild pitch, and the Mets brought in Ryley Gilliam to try and clean up the damage from Montgomery’s messy first inning showing.

Gilliam immediately gave up an RBI single to Jorge Alfaro but escaped the frame with the next out. The Marlins held a 4-0 advantage going into the second.

Per spring training rules, Montgomery was able to re-enter the game in the second inning. He allowed a solo homer to Aguilar to make 5-0 Miami, but there was nothing else across for the Fish in the frame. Montgomery gave up a two-out single to Jasrado Chisholm in the bottom of the third, but nothing came of it.

Jeurys Familia took over on the mound in the fourth. Alfaro hit a leadoff single and Miguel Rojas reached on a force out with Alfaro out at second. A wild pitch sent Rojas to third and he scored on a Starling Marte base knock that extended the Marlins lead, 6-1.

Aguilar’s two-out single to center put runners on the corners, but a mound visit was able to calm Familia down and get the last out of the frame.

Jeurys exited after one inning, allowing one run on three hits. Miguel Castro entered in relief in the fifth and allowed a solo homer to Adam Duvall. Marlins took a 7-1 lead but made no further damage. He earned one strikeout.

Dellin Betances tossed a 1-2-3 sixth inning.

Edwin Diaz pitched the seventh and gave up three runs on four hits. The fish started the frame with a pair of hits- a Joe Dunand double and Brian Miller single that put runners on the corners with no outs.

After delivering two strikeouts, Diaz gave up an Eddy Alvarez triple that drove in the pair of runners. Nick Forte picked up another RBI base hit to make it 10-1 Miami, and Diaz struck out Nasim Nunez to get out of the inning.

Three runs and three strikeouts for 27-year-old in what was likely the reliever’s last outing of spring training.

Arodys Vizcaino replaced Diaz in the eighth and gave up a leadoff walk to JJ Bleday but stranded the runner with a strikeout, lineout and groundout to get out of the frame.

AT THE PLATE

The Mets struggled offensively on Sunday with just six hits and two walks on the afternoon.

Michael Conforto knocked a single in the first. Luis Guillorme and Albert Almora both had base hits in the second, but nothing came of them.

Brandon Nimmo got the Mets on the board in the third inning with a leadoff solo homer, making it 5-1 Miami.

Conforto hit a one-out double in the third but New York couldn’t capitalize.

J.D. Davis drew a two-out walk in the sixth. Francisco Lindor took a one-out walk in the eighth.

Wilfredo Tovar got under a fastball for a solo homer in the top of the ninth. Mets would not be able to make a comeback, but cut the deficit to a 10-2, Miami victory.

ON DECK

The Mets are back at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Monday afternoon to take on the Cardinals. First pitch in Jupiter will be at 12:05 PM. The game won’t be televised but you can catch the call on St. Louis KMOX 1120 radio, available on the TuneIn Radio App or the MLB at Bat App.

Taijuan Walker (1-0, 3.00 ERA) will face off with Adam Wainwright (0-0, 1.83 ERA).
