Noah Syndergaard completed another successful bullpen session on Friday afternoon. He reached 97 mph after topping out at 96 mph last week.
According to a Tweet from Newsday‘s Tim Healey, Mets prospect Francisco Alvarez caught Syndergaard’s latest session and shook out his left hand after it ended in an acknowledgement of how hard Thor was throwing. Jacob deGrom said he has been having fun watching Syndergaard’s bullpens and expressed excitement that his teammate will rejoin New York’s rotation at some point this season.
It’s encouraging to hear that Syndergaard is steadily adding velocity as he gets further removed from his TJS that he underwent in March of last year. It would be huge for this year’s team if he can avoid setbacks in his rehab and hopefully pitch similarly to how he did from 2015 to 2019. He hasn’t pitched in a regular season game for the Mets since Sept. 29, 2019 and still appears to be on track for a June return.
