From letter-turner to game show host?
“Wheel of Fortune” fans are pleading for the trivia show’s mainstay Vanna White to take over as host after Pat Sajak’s recent retirement announcement.
Sajak, 76, revealed on Monday that he is leaving the series this season after over 40 years on the air.
White, 66, became “Wheel’s” regular letter tuner in 1982, so fans across social media are gunning for her to finally get a promotion.
“VANNA WHITE FOR WHEEL OF FORTUNE HOST 2024,” an excited fan tweeted yesterday.
“Pat Sajak to retire as ‘Wheel of Fortune’ host finally, but not soon enough. Should be end of 2023 season and take the nepo daughter with him. #vannaWhite deserves the hosting job,” one user wrote, referencing Sajak’s daughter Maggie — who has appeared on the game show sporadically in recent years.
Journalist Justin Kirkland chimed in: “With the news of Pat Sajak retiring, I’d like to formally begin the campaign of getting Vanna White to take over Wheel of Fortune.”
Someone else suggested: “I think Vanna White should take over hosting the wheel while Maggie Sajak takes over the letter board.”
“Vanna White should be Wheel of Fortune’s next host,” a fan penned.
“With Pat Sajak retiring, the ONLY smart thing is to make VANNA WHITE the new host of WHEEL OF FORTUNE! She’s already proven herself as a substitute host, everybody loves her and she can provide smooth, unbroken continuity,” another person enthusiastically shouted.
While fans are enthusiastic about White, reports have also recently circulated that famed media personality Ryan Seacrest could even be in the running to replace Sajak.
A source told Bloomberg that the 48-year-old “has been talking to the producers of ‘Wheel of Fortune'” and another insider said that he’s “the frontrunner” but “is just one of many interested” parties to become the host.
The Post has reached out to “Wheel of Fortune” reps for comment.
Sajak has hosted “Wheel” since 1981 and shared that the 2023-2024 season would be his last.
“Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last,” he wrote in his emotional send-off. “It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!)”
Back in 2021, Sajak and White touched upon their future departure, telling “Entertainment Tonight” how long they plan to emcee the brightly colored series together.
“We’re certainly closer to the end than the beginning,” he admitted. “I’d like to leave before people tune in and look at me and say, ‘Ooh, what happened to him?’”
“I wouldn’t bet on seeing us in, like, 10 years, I would say,” Sajak continued, before asking White, “Is that fair [to say]?”
White explained: “Probably, yes. We’ve been together for like 38 years and he’s like my brother. He’s funny. I mean, we could finish each other’s sentences if we wanted to. We know each other that well.”
