Real Madrid have already seen several players leave the club this summer, including key parts of Carlo Ancelotti’s team like Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio. With lack of depth a serious issue for them right now, they cannot afford to see any more leave anytime soon. Yet, Aurelien Tchouameni is someone surrounding whom there has been a lot of speculation lately.
Tchouameni arrived at Real Madrid just last summer, in a blockbuster move from AS Monaco. But there are already doubts around his long-term future at the club.
Tchouameni did make a bright start to life at Santiago Bernabeu, establishing himself as a starter quickly. But as the season progressed, his form seemed to fade away, especially after the World Cup in which he missed a penalty in the final against Argentina. By the end of the campaign, he had lost his status as a nailed-on starter and often found himself on the bench in the big games.
That has led to rumours linking Tchouameni with a move away from Real Madrid this summer, especially after the arrival of Jude Bellingham. But it looks like that is not what the club plan to do.
Real Madrid make Tchouameni exit decision
As reported by Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel, at the moment the intention is for Tchouameni to stay at Real Madrid. They want him to stay and he is viewed as a crucial player for their project.
That is good news. Tchouameni showed flashes of brilliance throughout the course of last season and what he needs to find now is consistency.
One also has to remember that Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are expected to leave the club soon. Perhaps even in the summer of 2024. Thus, it does not make sense to let go of a talented youngster like Tchouameni.
