Brendan Rodgers is not in any rush to replace Kolo Toure after the Leicester City first-team coach left the club to become Wigan manager.
Rodgers brought Toure with him when he moved to City from Celtic, but the Ivorian left at the end of last month to start his own journey in management. However, Rodgers feels he has enough staff to cope with Toure’s exit.
City still have a first-team coach in Adam Sadler, while there is assistant manager Chris Davies and set-piece coach Lars Knudsen, who has also been working on the club’s defensive structure. Rodgers does not feel it is imperative to fill Toure’s spot.

“I have enough coaches here with Chris, Adam, Lars, and myself,” Rodgers said last week. “I’d put myself into the coaching bracket.
“Kolo was a special type of person. He was a fantastic player for me. He wanted to move into coaching and I brought him into my technical staff. He was there to learn, and I also learned from Kolo in terms of his human qualities.
“It was always going to be that he would step out, that was his goal, to become a manager. He wanted to learn the ropes and dynamics of managing. Now he’s got a chance to be a number one.
“That’s the beauty of being a manager, it’s no different to seeing a player progress. I love to see my staff progress in life if they can. That’s great. I’ve spoken to him quite a lot.
“It’s a different sport, managing. He’ll do really well. The players will respond to him. He’s an amazing guy and we’ll miss him here. He’s a unique guy and he’s not someone I’m in any rush to replace.”
It does not seem like City will lack numbers on the training pitches, especially with Rodgers taking a more hands-on approach. The manager has been working with the players more regularly following the winless start to the campaign.
“My natural habitat is on the field, coaching,” Rodgers said. “When I was a younger manager, I would coach everything. But as you grow, you have more responsibilities as a manager. I’m always there on the field and I’ll have that big interest in coaching, but I’ve got some outstanding coaches here.
“Whenever you are in moments where your team is suffering, then you have to lead. In that period, I was able to do that. I’ve got fantastic coaches here in Chris Davies and Adam Sadler and Lars, who’s come in and worked on the defensive side and on set-pieces.
“What I’ve always been is a coach, right from my younger days. It’s something I’ll always be very focused on.”
Toure has started life as a manager with one point from his first three games. A 1-1 draw at Millwall was followed by a narrow home defeat to promotion hopefuls Sheffield United, before the Latics were thumped 4-1 by Middlesbrough on Boxing Day. Those results leave them in the relegation zone, three points from safety.
