NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Kentucky women's tennis team is primed to compete in its final fall tournament of the season, traveling to Nashville, Tennessee, for the June Stewart Invitational Friday, October 30 through Sunday, November 1. The Wildcats' fall finale will feature three other Southeastern Conference opponents the team has yet to meet this season, including Auburn, Tennessee and hosts Vanderbilt.
Just like in past fall tournaments, the teams will compete in a round-robin, hidden-dual format in both singles and doubles contests. The proposed schedule is as follows:
Friday, October 30
2 p.m. ET – Kentucky vs. Auburn (doubles)
Followed by – Kentucky vs. Tennessee (singles)
Saturday, October 31
2 p.m. ET – Kentucky vs. Vanderbilt (doubles)
Followed by – Kentucky vs. Auburn (singles)
Sunday, November 1
Not before 1 p.m. ET – Kentucky vs. Tennessee (doubles)
Followed by – Kentucky vs. Vanderbilt (singles)
Through the first two tournaments this fall, Kentucky has collected 22 triumphs – 14 singles wins and eight doubles wins – against top talent in the league, including Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi State and South Carolina.
The Wildcats will travel seven roster members to Nashville this weekend, including Sala Aher, Fiona Arrese, Carla Girbau, Carlota Molina, Akvile Paražinskaite, Elizabeth Stevens and Anastasia Tkachenko. Of the group, the June Stewart Invitational will mark the third fall event for Girbau, Molina, Paražinskaite and Stevens, while it marks just the second appearance for Aher, Aresse and Tkachenko.
Freshman Stevens had a breakout performance last weekend at the Bulldog Invitational, just the second outing of her collegiate career. The Tigard, Oregon, native competed in six events during the tournament, winning a team-high four matches, including two singles matches and two doubles matches, meanwhile competing in the No. 2 and 3 slots in singles action.
Nashville is expecting a cold front this weekend, which could move the tournament indoors. In that case, the schedule could be skewed, however live scoring and live streaming will be available for both outdoor and indoor action throughout the weekend.
