In recent gesture of gratitude for community support, EXIT Select Realty, a real estate brokerage firm in Fort Myers, decided to help make the senior varsity cheerleaders of Lehigh Senior High School’s Senior Night a day to remember.
Every year Lehigh Senior High holds its Senior Night football game, this year’s event was scheduled for Oct. 16. The long-standing tradition starts with a week-full of activities leading up to Senior Night, where the cheerleaders join seniors from the football team and band members to walk the field with their family members prior to the football game.
The effects of COVID-19 drastically changed the team’s yearly tradition, which included a team dinner and memorable senior gifts. This year there was not enough money to purchase the cheerleaders personalized megaphones — another part of the senior tradition. So when on Oct. 14, the senior varsity cheerleaders gathered for their dinner, the last thing they expected was to be surprised.
However, thanks to the generosity of EXIT Select Realty, they were able to be gifted with their personalized megaphones that they can proudly display at all future home games.
“Each year, the senior cheerleaders receive gifts from the school, including a personalized megaphone, but the unfortunate side effect of Covid-19 left very little funding. We rented out the whole back room of Texas Roadhouse Grill for the team and had their megaphones lined up on a table. They were so surprised and excited,” Marisa Capellán-Battle, the Office Administrator of EXIT, said.
Another set-back happened when the cheerleading team’s practice wear arrived earlier this school year, misspelled.
That’s when Marisa, EXIT Select Realty’s Office Administrator, decided to step in. Marisa, had a personal vested interest in the squad, as her daughter, Bella Capellán, is co-captain, so she decided to donate brand new practice wear for the entire varsity squad.
“They were really excited to get the megaphones, which they thought were not coming and then to find out that the company doing their uniforms had messed up the word lightening on their practice wear. It felt really unfair, this being their senior year. So much had happened already this year and we wanted to fix it for them,” Capellán-Battle said.
Fellow cheer mom of Co-Captain Ariah James, Jessica Jackson, also donated handmade bows and decorated water bottles.
“We also want to send a special thanks out to Beauty and the Beads for the cheer bracelets, Z Girlz Sockz for the 44 pairs of school colored socks, and Explosion Spirit Wear for getting the practice shirts ready in short notice. With all the unknowns and irregularities of the school year, these seniors have had to face thus far, EXIT Select Realty and the rest of the sponsors are so happy to support and provide them some type of normalcy!” Capellán-Battle explained.
The owner of EXIT also sent a thanks out to the community.
