MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota men's basketball team will host Boston College in the 2020 ACC/Big Ten Challenge, as the two conferences along with ESPN unveiled the event matchups Friday.

The Gophers and Eagles will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at Williams Arena, with game time and television broadcast information to be announced at a later date.

This will be just the second matchup all-time between the Gophers and BC, both of which will have been part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The teams met in Chestnut Hill, Mass., in Nov. of 2018 and the Eagles came away with a 68-56 victory in the first ever meeting between the schools.

Minnesota is 10-11 all-time in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, including a 4-3 mark under eighth-year head coach Richard Pitino. A 78-60 win over Clemson at Williams Arena last season snapped a three-game winless skid in the event after winning the previous five in a row.

Boston College finished 13-19 overall last season with a 7-13 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference, ending its season with a loss to Notre Dame in the second round of the ACC Tournament. Senior Steffon Mitchell, a native of Shakopee, Minn., was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team a year ago and was honorable mention all-conference. Sophomore Jay Heath is also back after leading the team with 13.1 points per game, though he is the only one of the team's top four scorers from last season that returns.

The Golden Gophers return two of their top three scorers from last season in juniors Marcus Carr (15.4 ppg) and Gabe Kalscheur (11.6). Carr was named All-Big Ten Third Team by the league's media as he set a school record with 207 assists. He led the Big Ten in minutes played, finished second in assists and was eighth in scoring. Kalscheur, led the Big Ten in 3-pointers made and attempted and enters the season ranked eighth in program history in the same two categories.

Minnesota returns eight members from last year's team that went 15-16 overall and 8-12 in the league. New this year are transfers Both Gach, Brandon Johnson and Liam Robbins, as well as freshmen David Mutaf, Jamal Mashburn, Jr., and Martice Mitchell.

The full 2020-21 schedule for Minnesota will be announced at a later date.
