Rangers boss Michael Beale has told Glen Kamara to train on his own until he finds a new club.
The Ibrox gaffer insists there’s no rift between him and the Finnish international, who still has two years left on his contract. But with Kamara up for sale this summer and Rangers looking for a buyer, Beale revealed he won’t be involved in his first-team squad. And the manager believes the 27-year-old midfielder won’t be the only player to leave the club before the end of the transfer window.
Beale has already signed eight new players, with Ecuador star Jose Cifuentes set to be number nine when he arrives from Los Angeles FC this week. But incredibly, he says if Kamara and others head for the Ibrox exit door - he could bring in two MORE. Fashion Sakala reportedly knocked back an offer from Saudi Arabia last week and Beale left him out of Rangers’ squad for Saturday’s 2-2 friendly draw against Hoffenheim in Germany.
The Zambian might still have a future at the club - but that won’t be the case with Kamara. Beale said: “Glen was given an extended break at the end of the season due to internationals then he had a sickness problem which has run on.
“He’s training in isolation at the moment, not with the group, trying to get himself up to speed. There’s a lot in the background with Glen as well, with different enquiries and him talking to different people.
“So it’s best that he’s to the side of the group. I’ve got no issues with him on a personal level. It’s a conversation we had a good few months ago.
“There’s nothing new on Fashion at the moment. There’s a bit of noise around a few of the players and that’s natural because of how many we’ve brought in.
“As soon as there’s something to say on that we will. When you bring nine players in and two back in January, that’s 11 into the squad.
“Quite a few have left, around eight to 10. But I need to have time now to bring this team together. Naturally with that process, one or two will be a little bit uneasy. And one or two might bite down on the gum shield and fight.
“The window shuts on September 1 but we’ve got eight or nine games before then. So it will be a long month. I’m sure one or two will leave and maybe one or two more will arrive.”
Beale is still trying to gel a new-look team for the start of the campaign which kicks off at Rugby Park on Saturday against Kilmarnock. He gave new boys Danilo and Dujon Sterling their debuts against Hoffenheim, with Cifuentes due into Glasgow before the trip to Ayrshire.
The Ibrox boss admits it will take time for them to hit top gear - but says they’re ready for the Premiership opener against Derek McInnes’ men. Beale said: “Is it going to be perfect straight away?
"No. You can see there’s going to be some teething problems. But we’ve got good players. And as long as they all get in line and in tune quickly, we’ll be OK.
“The league’s not going to be over after match one. We’ll play each game that’s in front of us. This is a new team. It’s what we wanted, it’s what the fans wanted. There’s a lot of excitement.
“Now we need to support it, fuel it. We need to get it fit and strong and together. The fans need to get behind us. We’ll take a game at a time and see where it takes us.
“This month we’ll play in three competitions. There’s a group of players here who won a lot of football matches from Christmas onwards when I came in. So I expect them to go and win some more this month.”
After the arrivals of Danilo, Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Abdellah Sima this summer, as well as Kemar Roofe’s return to fitness - Beale has gone top heavy in attack. But he’s convinced they’ll need all of that firepower if they’re going to be successful, both domestically and in Europe.
He said: “With the amount of number 9’s we’ve got, that will push us to play in a certain way. But we need those options. Because at times last season we were struggling for options in the final third.
“Danilo has won the Eredivisie the last two seasons, Dessers was the top scorer in that league and Lammers has been playing in Serie A. So they’ve come in with good pedigree.
“Good players like playing together but we need a bit of rhythm now. That will come with games.”
