DURHAM, N.C. – Behind four players with double-digit kills, the 14th-ranked Duke volleyball team bounced back from Saturday's loss with a 3-1 victory (25-21, 26-24, 23-25, 25-17) Sunday evening against Virginia Tech in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

With the win, the Blue Devils improve to 5-2 overall and in conference play as the Hokies drop to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in ACC action.

"This was great for us today," head coach Jolene Nagel said. "We haven't had to play back-to-back [matches] this season so far, so that was different for us but I was really happy to see the team did what they needed to do after the match last night. They seemed to look pretty good. We didn't play error free by any means, but at the same time, we eliminated them in the fourth set to help get the win. I'm really proud of them."

For the second match in a row, Duke featured four Blue Devils with double-digit kills as junior Ade Owokoniran amassed a whopping 18 with just four errors to hit .359 for the match. Senior Payton Schwantz (13), Lily Cooper (10) and Gracie Johnson (10) round out the double-digit Blue Devils as Duke hit .213 overall.

Schwantz hit .258 percent and Cooper played to a .286 clip with her second straight match with 10 or more kills. Sophomore Lizzie Fleming also had a solid evening with seven kills and just two errors to hit .263.

Setters Alex Springate and Sydney Yap split time on the court and dished 30 and 21 assists, respectively. Defensively for the Blue Devils, Schwantz racked up 19 digs, followed by libero Mackenzie Cole (16) and Yap (12).

Prior to yesterday's match, Yap saw action in two matches as she played in three sets total. This weekend, the rookie was outstanding in the setter position with 40 total assists through the two contests.

Both teams were outstanding at the net, with Duke holding a bit of an edge with 13.0 total team blocks to Virginia Tech's 11.0. Rookie Georgia Stavrinides accumulated six blocks while Owokoniran secured four and Johnson with three. Additionally, Duke added four solo blocks from Cooper (2), Owokoniran (1) and Stavrinides (1).

The match featured 32 score ties with 12 in the first set and 16 in the second.

The Blue Devils came out hot in the first frame as they hit .304 percent with Schwantz notching five kills to hit .455 percent. Virginia Tech was limited to a .073 clip in the second set with seven errors, allowing Duke to capitalize and take a 2-0 lead heading into the third.

The Blue Devils hit just .050 in the third but were unable to hold off the Hokies despite registering 10 blocks. Duke trailed 18-12 before Stavrinides' serve brought them within two (18-16). Stavrinides also added four blocks but weren't able to hold off the Hokies.

In the fourth and, ultimately, the deciding set, the Blue Devils hit .382 percent with 15 kills and just two errors. Schwantz and Owokoniran each tallied five to hit .571 and .556, respectively, and Duke ended the match with Springate's 30th dime of the night with a set to Owokoniran.

Virginia Tech was led by Ashley Homan (13), Marisa Cerchio (12) and Kaity Smith (11) while libero Logan Mosley had 23 digs.

Duke closes out the 2020 fall slate Friday, Oct. 30 against Virginia at 6:30 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
