NewsChannel 13 was first on the scene around 6 p.m. where protestors held signs, and others threw water bottles at police vehicles and picked up bricks.

Police officers could be seen in riot gear.

Later, more bricks and even garbage cans were thrown. Police pushed back with tear gas.

Around 10 p.m., a truck was set on fire near South Pearl and Westerlo streets.

Soon after, police in riot gear approached the intersection.

Albany police have sent out an advisory message, warning people to stay away from South Pearl and Arch Streets. A curfew in the city has been put in place until Sunday at 7 a.m.

This comes after a peaceful protest earlier in the day in Townsend Park. The afternoon rally was organized by Citizen Action. Co-organizer Jamaica Miles said change is coming,

"This is the beginning of the next civil rights movement," said Miles. "That is the moment we are in. That is what we are building here in the Capital District."

The protests come in the wake of George Floyd's death in Minneapolis.
