A 21-year-old man riding a motorcycle on the freeway died Thursday night when he failed to make the turn on a curve at the end of the exit ramp, the California HIghway Patrol said.
The fatal crash happened at the Carolyn Street/164th Avenue exit off westbound Interstate 580 in Castro Valley at around 8 p.m. The exit curves sharply toward the bottom, CHP spokesman Officer Gabe Walters said.
Authorities identified the motorcyclist as Rui Sun, of Sacramento. He died at the scene.
The initial investigation indicated Sun probably was going too fast at the bottom of the ramp, Walters said. No other vehicles were involved.
