HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — A vehicle crash and large fire has blocked all traffic heading southbound on I-95 Saturday.
The crash happened near Exit 72, near Dunn in Harnett County.
The State Highway Patrol told WRAL News a tractor-trailer crashed into a bridge while going south on I-95, burst into flames and then continued out of control for a short distance.
Two other drivers crashed while trying to avoid the out of control truck.
"Chaos. Lot of fire, everything, it’s just terrible man," One driver, Quan Maine, told WRAL News. "The truck right there looks like it exploded."
As drivers worked around huge delays, some of their thoughts were also with the man behind the wheel at the center of this disaster.
"I just hope the man’s safe, man," said Maine. "I just pray and hope he’s safe."
SHP said the driver of the truck was airlifted with serious injuries from the scene, and one other driver suffered minor injuries.
Pictures and video provided to WRAL News show multiple vehicles a large fire at the exit.
I-95 south reopened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, but congestion could continue into the evening.
