WESTPORT — Construction of a new Interstate 95 bridge over Saugatuck Avenue will force closure of the Exit 17 on-and off-ramps this week.
The state Department of Transportation project along the highway’s corridor from I-95’s Exit 17 south to Exit 16 in Norwalk is expected to cost $103.4 million and be completed in November 2024.
The work, in addition to the new bridge, includes installation of a concrete barrier between the north- and southbound lanes to replace the grassy median, as well as wider roadway shoulders, new guide rails and resurfacing the travel lanes and ramps.
- The on-ramp to I-95 southbound at Exit 17 will be closed, and a detour enforced, on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 28-29, according to the DOT.
- The Exit 17 off-ramp from I-95 southbound will be closed, and a detour in effect, on Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
- If initial work is completed in a single night, however, the Exit 17 on- and off-ramps will be closed only on Monday, Nov. 28. and Tuesday, Nov. 29, according to the DOT.
- The on-ramp to I-95 southbound at Exit 16 in Norwalk will be closed, and a detour in place, on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 5-6. Alternating one-way traffic around that construction site will be in effect on East Avenue on Dec. 7, 8 and 9.
