BURNSVILLE, Minn. – In what looks to be the strong division of the NSIC, the Augustana men's basketball team was picked fourth in the NSIC South Division Preseason Coaches' Poll and also earned a No. 4 selection in the overall NSIC poll. The league announced the preseason polls on Thursday along with Tyler Riemersma being tabbed the Vikings' Player to Watch.

The Vikings totaled 175 points in the overall poll and is just behind Minnesota State and ahead of Upper Iowa while in the division poll, AU totaled 35 points to sit behind UIU and ahead of Sioux Falls.

"We have an excellent mix of both veterans and new players," Augustana head coach Tom Billeter said. "Our chemistry has been great all fall and they are very coachable."

Among the veterans Billeter referred to is Riemersma who has averaged a double-double the past two seasons. In 2021, Riemersma recorded 13.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per outing. He also led Augustana with a .523 shooting percentage.

"Tyler is a two-time Academic All-American and has been named to both the first and second teams for the NSIC," Billeter said. "He is an excellent rebounder, passer and a very smart player."

Other returners include Adam Dykman, Dylan LeBrun and Isaac Fink, all of whom were starters in 2021 and averaged double-digit points. Dykman tallied 12.7 points per game while LeBrun was at 12.5 points per outing. Fink totaled 10.3 points per contest.

Augustana can also expect a veteran presence from Jameson Bryan, who started the final six games of 2021 while averageing just over 22 minutes per game.

The Vikings welcome into the fold redshirt freshman Akoi Akoi and four true freshmen. Among the freshmen are Angelo Winkel, a 2021 Finalist for Iowa Player of the Year, Zac Johnson, his high school's all-time leader in scoring and rebounding, Veron Eze, a member of the U23 FIBA 3x3 team for Great Britain and Alex Distras, a member of Great Britain's U18 team.

Augustana opens the 2021-22 with a pair of challenges before the NSIC slate begins on Nov. 23 at Wayne State. The first challenge, the Central Region Challenge in Kansas City, Missouri, has AU facing Southern Arkansas and Washburn on Nov. 12-13, respectively. The East/West Challenge is set to take place in Aberdeen, South Dakota, with the Vikings competing against Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines on Nov. 19-20.

The Vikings make their home debut on Nov. 26 against Doane in the Elmen Center. The Sanford Pentagon debut of the 2021-22 team is slated for Dec. 2 against Sioux Falls.
