8:34 p.m. Steve Lipsher, spokesperson for Summit Fire & EMS, confirmed that an estimated four to five people were transported to St. Anthony Summit Hospital. Lipsher also said that according to an eyewitness account, it’s believed that two semi-trucks were involved in the collision, not one.
Lipsher reported that there were icy conditions on the road at the time of the accident and cautioned motorists against early snow storms. He said that drivers should take note of the weather before they leave for their trips and to drive at a safe speed, leaving plenty of distance from other drivers.
7:57 p.m. According to an update from Colorado State Patrol Trooper Joshua Lewis, the collision involved a semitractor-trailer and is estimated to involve a motorcycle and about five cars. No injuries or fatalities have been reported, but Lewis confirmed one party was medically transported.
Lewis reported that the cause of the crash is still under investigation. He estimated that it’d be a few hours until the westbound lanes are reopened. Lewis could not confirm the number of people involved in the crash.
Original story: Westbound lanes on Interstate 70 between Silverthorne Exit 205 and Exit 216 at Loveland Pass, according to a tweet sent out by the Colorado Department of Transportation at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
CDOT spokesperson Tamara Rollison said the closure was due to a multiple-vehicle collision. Westbound lanes will be closed “for an extended period of time,” according to CDOT’s tweet.
