Cross Country Set For GNAC Championships This Saturday In Lacey - WOU Athletics

LACEY, Wash. – With five meets completed from the regular season, the Western Oregon University men's and women's cross country teams will now turn their attention to competing at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships this Saturday hosted by Saint Martin's in Lacey.

This will be the first cross country GNAC Championships since 2019 that were hosted by Montana State Billings. Both teams placed sixth that year, with Justin Crosswhite finishing runner-up and Grace Knapp coming in fifth.

This year's event will take place on the campus of Saint Martin's with the women running a 6k and the men an 8k. The men's race will go first at 10 a.m., with the women's to follow around 11 a.m.

Women's entries include Josie Ackerman, Kaylin Cantu, Katie Chapman, Caitlin Heldt, Luz Garcia, Kaitlyn Kruse, Lindie Larson, Kaiya Leamy, Emily Moore and Emily Johnson. Men's entries include Keanu Daos, Cedar Davis-Frankfort, Emmet Klus, Jaden McCabe, Dustyn Mckenney, Bryce Mefford, Easton Pomrankey, Tim Rambo, Bailey Smith and Miguel Villar.

Ackerman is coming off of the Lewis & Clark Invite in which she placed 145th in the 6k race. She opened the season in the 4k Ash Creek Collegiate coming in 37th.

Cantu will be running in her third GNAC Championships, coming in 42nd in 2018 and 34th in 2019. So far this season, she has competed in both the Mike Johnson Classic and Lewis Crossover, both 6k races. At the Mike Johnson Classic, Cantu placed 52nd and at the very competitive Lewis Crossover she came in 121st.

Chapman opened the season strong coming in runner-up at the 4k Linfield Harrier Classic. She ran in another 4k a week later at the Ash Creek Collegiate coming in 28th. Chapman competed in both the Mike Johnson Classic placing 58th in the 6k race and 177th in the 6k race in the competitive Lewis Crossover.

Heldt has run in three meets so far this year, starting the season with a runner-up finish at the 4k Ash Creek Collegiate. She then came in 11th in the 6k at the Mike Johnson Classic and recently ran in the 6k Lewis Crossover where she placed 27th.

Garcia has posted three strong results throughout the season that included a pair of first-place finishes at the 4k Ash Creek Collegiate and the 6k Mike Johnson Classic. Recently she came in 11th in the strong field at the Lewis Crossover in the 6k meet.

Kruse has also run in three meets this year, as she opened the season coming in 45th at the 4k Ash Creek Collegiate. She then ran in both 6k meets at the Mike Johnson Classic coming in 108th and in the Lewis Crossover placing 218th.

Larson has run in four meets this year, starting the season coming in 14th in the 4k Linfield Harrier Classic. In the second 4k meet of the year, Larson came in 31st at the Ash Creek Collegiate. The past two meets have both been 6k races, as Larson placed 66th at the Mike Johnson Classic and 206 at the competitive Lewis Crossover.

Leamy has run in three meets this year, starting the season with a 13th-place finish at the 4k Linfield Harrier Classic. Then running in a pair of 6k meets, Leamy came in 105th at the Mike Johnson Classic and 213rd in the competitive Lewis Crossover.

Moore has competed in four meets this year, starting the season coming in 12th at the 4k Linfield Harrier Classic. In the other 4k meet during the Ash Creek Collegiate, she came in 39th. The past two meets were both 6k races coming in 67th at the Mike Johnson Classic and 230th in the loaded Lewis Crossover.

Johnson has run in two meets this year, starting the season at the 4k Linfield Harrier Classic where she placed ninth. Then recently this past weekend Johnson ran in the Lewis & Clark Invite coming in 152nd in the 6k race.

On the men's side, Daos began the season with a strong result when he won the 6k Ash Creek Collegiate. Recently he also competed in the tough 8k Lewis Crossover where he finished 94th.

Davis-Frankfort has run in two meets this year, opening the year with a strong 26th-place finish during the 6k Ash Creek Collegiate. He also ran in the 8k Mike Johnson Classic coming in 90th.

Klus has entered two meets this year as well, running in the 8k Mike Johnson Classic for his first meet of the year coming in 40th. Recently he ran in the competitive 8k Lewis Crossover where he came in 152nd.

McCabe has run in three meets this year, opening the season in the 6k Ash Creek Collegiate coming in 41st. He then placed 104th in the 8k Mike Johnson Classic and then added a 162nd-place finish in the 8k Lewis & Clark Invite.

Mckenney has run in two meets so far this year, as he opened the season in the 8k Mike Johnson Classic coming in 49th. Then in the competitive Lewis Crossover, Mckenney came in 182nd in the 8k race.

Mefford has competed in two meets this year, starting the season off in the 6k Ash Creek Collegiate coming in 29th. He also ran in the 8k Mike Johnson Classic crossing in 42nd.

Pomrankey has entered in three meets this year, starting the season coming in 14th in the 6k Ash Creek Collegiate. He also ran in a pair of 8k meets placing 64th in the Mike Johnson Classic and this past weekend coming in 151st in the Lewis & Clark Invite.

Rambo has run in two meets this year opening the season at the 6k Ash Creek Collegiate where he came in with a solid seventh-place finish. Recently he ran at the competitive Lewis Crossover where he came in 97th in the 8k race.

Smith has run in two meets this year, starting the season out in the 8k Mike Johnson Classic where he came in 44th. He recently competed in the competitive 8k Lewis Crossover coming in 44th.

Villar has competed in two meets this year, starting the season off in the 8k Mike Johnson Classic when he came in 18th. Recently in the tough Lewis Crossover, he came in with a solid result of 33rd in the 8k meet.

The top-10 finishers in each race will be named All-GNAC. The special awards for Athlete of the Year will go to the race champion, Freshman of the Year to the top true freshman or redshirt freshman finisher in the race and the Newcomer of the Year will be the top newcomer to the conference (must be sophomore eligibility or higher).
