MEAD, Colo. — Authorities are investigating the chain of events that led to a deadly crash on I-25 near the Mead exit Monday evening.
Northbound and southbound I-25 are closed in the area, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Colorado State Patrol confirmed a 32-year-old woman, who was driving a white Honda CRV, was killed in the crash. It is unknown at this time how she was involved.
CDOT officials said they are still investigating the circumstances of the crash. Viewer video shows an excavator on its side and damage to the overpass.
CDOT will have to assess the structural integrity of the overpass before anyone else is allowed through, according to CSP. It is unknown when the interstate will reopen.
