A South Jersey motorist died of his injuries three days after he was involved in a head-on collision with an allegedly intoxicated driver on a highway exit ramp.

Jeffrey Koltys, 67, of Runnemede, had exited Route 55 northbound in Deptford Township at the interchange with Route 47/Delsea Drive shortly before 2 p.m. on May 2 when his car collided with a vehicle traveling the wrong way on the ramp, according to a New Jersey State Police spokeswoman.

Koltys was hospitalized and died last Thursday.

The driver of the other vehicle, Robert T. Sherry, 71, of Elk Township, suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said.

He was charged on the day of the crash with assault by auto and unlawful possession of a weapon, and issued a citation for driving under the influence.

The weapon charge involved a handgun Sherry allegedly had in his possession, even though he didn’t have a permit to carry it, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in the case.

Sherry, who was charged on a summons and released, could face additional charges following the death of the other motorist.

The case remains under investigation, police said.
