SAN ANTONIO – Two men were arrested after firing a handgun in the front yard of their residence and then pointing it toward a police officer, according to San Antonio police.
The incident happened around 9:30 p.m., Saturday, in the 3200 block of Stephen Foster.
Officials said they received a call for shots fired, and upon arrival, an officer found a 37-year-old man and a 44-year-old man standing outside in the front yard of their residence, firing a handgun.
The 9mm gun was fired into the air and into the ground and police said they found eight shell casings at the scene.
The officer approached the men and told them to drop the weapon. However, instead of dropping the gun, one of the men then pointed it at the officer, according to police.
Officials said the officer feared for his life and fired one round toward the suspects but did not hit them. The officer then retreated to be able to “reengage with the men from a better position of cover.”
Eventually, the suspects followed the officer’s orders and dropped the weapon.
More officers were called to aid in the response and they approached the men, who were then taken into custody without injury or incident. No injuries were reported.
The incident is being investigated as an officer-involved shooting and one of the men could be facing a charge of assault on a peace officer, according to police.
Charges are still pending and the investigation is still ongoing.
