Shannon Sharpe left “Undisputed” and Skip Bayless during one of the most public splits in recent memory. There appeared to be tension on and off the set during the final months of Sharpe’s employment at FS1, which finally boiled over during his exit.
Stephen A. Smith publicly went to bat for Sharpe and stated point blank that he wanted the former Undisputed analyst to join “First Take.” Smith got his wish, and Sharpe will join the new-look First Take on Monday.
Recently, Sharpe joined his new co-host, Smith, on his podcast Club Shay Shay to discuss several topics, one of which was his departure from Undisputed.
What Did Shannon Sharpe Say About His Time on Undisputed?
Sharpe took the high road for the most part, complimenting his former co-host Bayless, and acknowledged that his time at FS1 was an opportunity for him. Undisputed put Sharpe on the map as a host who can carry a brand.

“It’s not often that someone can give you that opportunity. And I’ve said this several times. I cannot let six months ruin six and a half good years. Because sometimes people are willing to throw everything away for one mistake, or one bad comment, or one something like this. And even though that was all we were supposed to get.”
What Role Did Tabitha Brown Play in Sharpe’s Departure?
Sharpe was struggling during his final months at FS1 and knew that it would be best for him to leave the show.
But the fear of the unknown, what would be next for his career, left him with doubt. Some verbal barbs between Bayless and Sharpe seemed to cross the line with the former Super Bowl winner and felt personal. Sharpe needed clarity and received it from an unlikely source.

Tabitha Brown is best known as an actress and social media personality who has built her brand to new heights in recent years. Sharpe interviewed Brown on several topics, but what happened after they stopped recording propelled Sharpe to make the necessary leap.

“About four more months ago, I had Tabitha Brown, she had no idea this was going on. So, we wrapped the interview… We took our mics off, and she leaned in close to me. She said, ‘I had a dream last night. God told me, it’s gonna be okay for you to go ahead and do what you need to do. She says it’s gonna be different. But you need to go on your own.'”
Brown’s sentiments gave Sharpe the reassurance he needed to leave the show he called home for the past six years. Since his departure, Bayless has replaced Sharpe with Richard Sherman, Keyshawn Johnson, and Michael Irvin.
Sharpe makes his debut on First Take on Monday, Sept. 4.
