Sanna Marin is set to leave the Prime Minister's office for the next four years, but what kind of government will replace hers? The All Points North podcast looks at all the issues arising from Finland's parliamentary election.
•
Finland went to the polls on Sunday to elect a new parliament, with the opposition National Coalition and Finns Party increasing their vote share and seat numbers.
The All Points North podcast asked World Politics Professor Teivo Teivainen what the results mean for the parties concerned and the country, as Finland adjusts to a new government led from the right.

NCP leader Petteri Orpo's international profile is quite different from Sanna Marin's, but that will bring some changes in the country's media coverage abroad.
"The style is different, fewer Vogue cover stories, but the content depends on the coalition partners," said Teivainen.
The podcast chews over the coalition government options and asks what went wrong for the Centre Party, Leftists and Greens, who all lost seats and support.
In terms of the new government, there are compromises ahead — but the Finns Party and the National Coalition have moved closer in recent years. That is a change for the Finns Party, which has historically been regarded as the choice of disaffected, socially conservative blue-collar voters.
"The economic policy of the Finns Party has become much closer to the business oriented policies of the NCP," said Teivainen.
In any case, most coalitions are still possible. No one party is going to get everything it wants, and compromises will have to be made.
"In Finland the government never executes any one party's line, so it's more complicated than just the Finns Party or the NCP," Teivainen explained.
