With the Lightning's Steven Stamkos, Victor Hedman and Andrei Vasilevskiy all suiting up, the Atlantic Division fell 8-5 to the Central Division in their openiing matchup at Saturday's All-Star Game at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
In the six years that the NHL has used this four division All-Star format, the Atlantic has yet to win the title.
Vasilevskiy got the start in net for Andrew Brunette's Atlantic side and made nine saves on 12 shots in the first 10-minute session.
Five of those saves came on Central Division breakaways. Vasilevskiy nearly picked up an assist as well, denying Kyle Connor before lofting the puck to Auston Matthews at the far blue line to set up a breakaway chance. Cam Talbot denied the Big Cat's chance at an assist, making the save on Matthews. Vasilevskiy gave way to Toronto's Jack Cambell at the midway point of the period with the Atlantic trailing 3-2.
Hedman's lone point came after he forced a turnover at center ice and sprung a 2-on-1 in the opposite direction that ended with Matthews firing home Jonathan Huberdeau's feed. Hedman also had a goal wiped off the board after a ref-initiated review when the replay revealed Connor had actually scored for the Central moments prior to Hedman's breakaway.

Down a pair of goals with just over three minutes to play, Stamkos cut the deficit to one when he converted on a breakaway chance, picking out the top corner on Juuse Saros.
That would be as close as the Atlantic would get, however, with Alex DeBrincat and Joe Paveslki rounding out the scoring in the closing minutes.
