ATHENS, Ohio – Darius Perrantes recorded two total touchdowns in his first Duquesne start to lead the Dukes to their first win over a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent in program history with a 28-26 victory over Ohio on Saturday afternoon at Peden Stadium.

The Dukes (1-1) also became the first team from the NEC to defeat a team from the FBS and the seventh Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team to accomplish that feat this season. The game against Ohio was Duquesne's fifth against an FBS foe since joining the FCS ranks in 1993.

Perrantes, who started in place for the injured Joe Mischler, helped Duquesne control the tempo throughout the contest as the Dukes held possession for 41:02  compared to the Bobcats' 18:58 in the historic win. The Rhode Island transfer completed 23-of-34 pass attempts for 194 yards and a touchdown to go with a rushing score. Duquesne outgained the Bobcats 362-307 using a balanced attack of 194 yards through the air and 168 on the ground.

With the Dukes holding a 28-20 fourth quarter lead, Ohio quarterback Kurtis Rourke hit Ty Walton for a three-yard touchdown with nine seconds to play to cut the DU lead to 28-26. On the two-point conversion attempt, Rourke threw a fade route to the left corner of the end zone, but Duquesne cornerback Tim Lowery broke up the pass to seal the Dukes win.

The Duquesne defense came up with many timely stops throughout the game, forcing Ohio to convert just 1-of-7 third-down attempts in the game while the Dukes were 7-of-16 on third down and 2-of-2 on fourth down.

The Bobcats got on the board right away on Saturday afternoon when De'Montre Tuggle took the opening kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown.

Duquesne answered with a 23-yard field goal by Brian Bruzdewicz, before Tuggle countered with a 15-yard touchdown run to push the Ohio advantage to 13-3.

Bruzdewicz then connected on a career-long 38-yard field goal, minimizing the edge to 13-6.

Late in the first quarter, Duquesne punter Michael Berarducci pinned Ohio at its own one-yard line with a 49-yard punt. On the very next play, A.J. Ackerman and Maxi Hradecny tackled running back O'Shaan Allison in the Bobcats' end zone for the safety to cut the deficit to 13-8 after the opening stanza.

Bruzdewicz's third field goal of the afternoon from 21 yards out in the second quarter would make it a 13-11 Ohio lead heading into the locker room.

On the Dukes' first drive of the second half, Perrantes kept it himself on a one-yard rush up the middle on fourth down to give the Dukes an 18-13 lead. Perrantes completed five pass attempts on Duquesne's 75-yard scoring drive, ignited by a 17-yard completion to Davie Henderson.

After the Duquesne defense forced the Bobcats to punt, Perrantes and the Dukes marched 68 yards in 12 plays, capped by a three-yard touchdown pass to Joey Isabella to give the Dukes a two-score lead at 25-13.

All told, the Dukes first two scoring drives of the second half drained 11:29 off the clock.

Ohio would find the end zone for the first time since the first quarter on its next drive, when Rourke trotted in from two yards out to cut the Duquesne edge to 25-20.

The Dukes answered with their longest drive of the day, traveling 66 yards in 15 plays using 7:59 of clock before Bruzdewicz's career-high fourth field goal went through the uprights from 27 yards out with 2:46 showing on the clock, putting Duquesne ahead 28-20.

That is when Rourke and the Bobcats found the end zone with nine ticks remaining, but Duquesne shut down the two-point attempt.

Garrett Owens rushed 23 times for 82 yards to pace the Dukes while Billy Lucas registered 14 rushes for 77 yards on the day.

Isabella hauled in a career and team-high eight receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown. Cyrus Holder tallied four receptions for a team-high 55 yards, Wykeen Gill posted five catches for 25 yards and Henderson had two receptions for 43 yards.

Jeremiah Josephs led the Duquesne defense with eight tackles (four solo) while Lowery, Leandro DeBrito and Donovan Stanley each added five tackles for the Dukes. AJ Garson registered a fourth-quarter sack while Todd Hill chipped in four tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss.

The Dukes scored on all six trips inside the red zone in the game.

Game Notes
- The Dukes become the first team from the Northeast Conference (NEC) to defeat a team from the FBS and the seventh FCS team to accomplish that feat this season. Duquesne joins UC Davis (Tulsa), Eastern Washington (UNLV), South Dakota State (Colorado State), Holy Cross (UConn), Montana (Washington) and East Tennessee State (Vanderbilt) as FCS teams to defeat FBS squads so far this year. Coming into the contests, teams from the NEC were 0-24 against the FBS.

- Darius Perrantes made his first start in a Duquesne uniform in place of the injured Joe Mischler. Perrantes also made two starts as a freshman at Rhode Island in 2019. The Los Angeles, Calif. native completed 23-of-34 pass attempts for 194 yards and a touchdown to go with a rushing score.

- Brian Bruzdewicz connected on 4-of-4 field goal attempts for the Dukes, including a career-long 38-yarder. He is the first Duquesne kicker to make four field goals in one game since Austin Crimmins did against Monmouth on Nov. 23, 2013. He has now made 9-of-11 field goals for his career.

- The Dukes recorded a safety in the second quarter, as A.J. Ackerman and Maxi Hradecny tackled Ohio's O'Shaan Allison in the end zone. It marked Duquesne's first safety since Sam Martello tackled a Colonial ball carrier in the end zone vs. Robert Morris on Nov. 22, 2014.
