HIGH POINT, N.C.-- The High Point University Women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 result to James Madison Sunday afternoon inside Vert Stadium in HPU's last non-conference game of the season. Emily Mashinski scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the first half of play. It was HPU's second-ever contest against the Dukes and was the last out of league game before Campbell comes to Vert Stadium to start Big South play on Saturday, September 18th.

Brandi Fontaine"Today did not go the way we had hoped it would go. James Madison is a team that we feel like we match up evenly with, we both play a similar style. We knew it was going to be a good match, that was going to come down to tactics and understanding the opposition, and figuring out how we could break each other down. We didn't get out of it what we wanted to today. It is the last non-conference game of the season and we did not put our best foot forward but now we have to move forward. We are going into conference play and we can not look back at this point. We have to put things right, now is when everything is on the line, and everything matters."

Sam Gerhart made her return to the starting lineup against James Madison.

HPU almost started the scoring early as Salome Prat had her shot saved at point-blank range.

Later in the first half in the 27th minute, Magdalena Schwarz sent a hard shot towards the Dukes' keeper that bounced of the hands of Alexandra Blom and bounced around in the box and was found by Mashinski who took advantage of the out of position keeper and finished. It was Mashinski's first goal of her collegiate career. Mashinski gave HPU a 1-0 lead with 19:46 to play in the first half.

HPU took a 1-0 lead into the half in their non-conference finale.

Five minutes into the second half JMU found the equalizer to tie the game at one.

In the 55th minute, James Madison added a second goal to take the lead 2-1 on a shot that came in from midfield.

In the 62nd minute, Skyler Prillaman recorded a strong shot that went just high and nearly tied the game at two.

In the 66th minute, Morgan Hairston provided what might be her best save of the 2021 fall campaign as she stopped a Dukes' chance with her feet to make the save and keep the game at 2-1.

In the 78th minute, JMU added a third goal, the Dukes went on to win 3-1.

Up Next: HPU starts Big South play on Saturday night at 7:00 PM with a rematch of the 2020-21 Big South Championship as Campbell comes to Vert to face HPU.
