Troopers also identified one of the others injured as a 4-year-old Albany boy Ezra Corye and indicated he was critically hurt in the crash. He had a seat belt on, but was not in a child restraint seat, troopers said.

Killed in the crash was 27-year-old Thaddeus S. Peterson, of Albany, state police said.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. Thursday on the Interstate 90 entrance at Exit 27, Amsterdam.

The driver and only occupant of one of the vehicles was unhurt. However, four people were inside the other vehicle and one of those died, state police said.

Troopers determined the driver of a Honda Odyssey, identified as Sophia M. Cassetta-Unrath, 20, of Rochester, was traveling east on I-90 when she exited at Amsterdam.

While on the off-ramp, however, she failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway due to traveling too fast for the wet road conditions and crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a Saturn Ion head-on, state police said. Her Honda then continued off the roadway and overturned, state police said.

Troopers issued Cassetta-Unrath a vehicle and traffic ticket, state police said.

Four people were inside the Ion. Peterson was a backseat passenger in the Ion. He was taken to Albany Medical Center, where he died of his injuries Saturday, state police said.

Ezra Corye, 4, was taken to Albany Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and he remained there in critical condition Monday, troopers said.

His mother, Alyssa Dalton, 23, of Albany, was also taken to Albany Medical Center. Her injuries were considered non-life-threatening, troopers said.

State police identified the Ion driver as Christopher M. Kenyon, of Amsterdam. He was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with minor injuries, state police said.

State police Thruway Fultonville troopers were assisted by state police Troop G Collision Reconstruction Unit, the Troop G Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Thruway Traffic Safety and Maintenance.
