Ross 'giggling' amid social media frenzy after Bryant exit originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Even without access to social media, Cubs manager David Ross knew there would be a frenzy brewing when Kris Bryant exited Tuesday’s game against the Cardinals.
Bryant, whose name is hot on the rumor mill with less than two weeks until the trade deadline, left in the bottom of the fifth inning. It had fans across baseball speculating a trade was going down.

“Of course. It made me laugh,” said Ross of realizing Bryant exiting would fire up trade speculation. “I was actually giggling.
“I was like, ‘This is nice for the media and all the people at home. They get to speculate till the ninth.”
The Cubs announced an inning later Bryant left the game with right hamstring fatigue.
With the deadline around the corner, the backdrop of all the trade rumors and natural speculation wasn't lost on Ross.
“If I could have gotten hold of [Cubs media relations director] Jason Carr not to give you guys any information,” Ross joked, “I would have and let you guys kind of run with some things.”
Absolutely diabolic, but also hilarious.
Ross couldn't have picked a player more likely to go viral for leaving a game without an obvious reason why.
“I get all that,” he said. “It’s the first thing I thought of when he did come out and I finally had a chance to reset.
“The Rosenthals, the Heymans, all those guys, I love that they had to waste some time and make some phone calls.”
As for Bryant's actual status, Ross said he had already planned to get him a day off on Wednesday. Bryant, an All-Star, didn't get much time off during the break.
Whether he's in the lineup, the speculation will carry on until something happens. Or doesn't.
