Detroit bike-share nonprofit MoGo is seeking a new executive director as founder Lisa Nuszkowski gets ready to leave the organization.
Nuszkowski announced the news in a Facebook post, which also linked to a posting for the leadership position. She declined to comment further.
"It has been one of the great joys of my life to take the idea for bike sharing in Detroit and bring it to life," she wrote on Facebook. "Alas, all good things must come to an end — in the coming months I'll be handing over the reins as MoGo Detroit's executive director More on what's next for me soon ..."
Before launching MoGo in 2017, Nuszkowski worked on mobility, real estate and public safety in Wayne State University's Office of Economic Development. She has also been chief of staff for former state Rep. Steven Tobocman and a city of Detroit planning and facilities associate. She has a bachelor's degree in political science from Central Michigan University and master's in public policy from the University of Michigan. She was a Crain's 40 Under 40 honoree in 2016.
The new MoGo leader will report to the nonprofit's 10-member board of directors, which includes Lauren Hood, equitable development strategist with Deep Dive Detroit; Ned Staebler, president of TechTown Detroit; and Bishop Edgar Vann of Second Ebenezer Church. The nonprofit has three employees — two full-time and one part-time.
MoGo is a short-term bicycle renting system that has expanded across greater downtown Detroit and then into northwest Detroit, Ferndale, Royal Oak, Oak Park, Berkley and Huntington Woods. It started with 43 stations and now has 75, from which it operates 620 bikes. It's funded through revenue and with support from Henry Ford Health System and Health Alliance Plan.
Riders pay via app or at the stations. It costs $1 to unlock a bicycle and 25 cents per minute when riding, or a two-hour pass is $18. Monthly passes are $20 and annual ones are $90. Those who get state income assistance are eligible for $5-a-year passes.
MoGo has said in 2020 news releases that it increased cleanings during the pandemic.
