ST. PETERSBURG — A 36-year-old St. Petersburg man died Sunday when his car flipped off an interstate exit ramp and fell into a parking lot below, troopers said.
The man was driving a sedan south on the Interstate 275 exit ramp to I-375 about 4 p.m. when he lost control on the wet road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The car spun onto the shoulder, collided with the barrier wall, overturned and fell into a parking lot, damaging four city of St. Petersburg vehicles that were parked there.
The driver, who was alone in the car, died at the scene. Troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol no longer includes the name of people involved in crashes in its news releases due to the agency’s application of Marsy’s Law.
Photos released by the Highway Patrol show the car crumpled the front of a city street sweeping truck.
