Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs will enter 2021 minus one of the most steadfast pieces of their offensive line.

Trey Hill departs Athens having started all 14 games of the 2019 season and the first 8 of 2020 at center. Hill entered this season on the watch lists for both the Rimington Award (given to the nation’s top center) and the Outland Trophy (for the nation’s top interior lineman). Along the way he’s anchored the UGA front, serving as a near constant presence in the middle. Hill held the team’s longest starting streak at 26 games before being forced to undergo meniscus surgery on both knees following the 45-16 win over South Carolina.

The race to replace Hill will likely be between redshirt sophomore Warren Ericson, who started in Hill’s place against Missouri and Cincinnati, and freshman Sedrick Van Pran-Granger. Van Pran-Granger saw action in five games during 2020 and drew praise from Kirby Smart, who noted recently that his development has actually made the coaches comfortable allowing Ericson to work at guard when needed. Also in the mix will be sophomore Clay Webb, who played in only two games this season seeing time at guard.
