Setting the Scene...
    Riding a two-game winning streak to open the 2020-21 campaign, Duke women's basketball (2-0) will host East Carolina (1-2) Saturday, Dec. 5 at 12 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium.  The game will be aired live on ACC Network Extra. It will also be carried on the Duke Sports Network via WDNC AM 620, TuneIn app and www.GoDuke.com with Chris Edwards (PXP) on the air beginning at 11:45 a.m. (ET).

What is Next?...
    Duke will open ACC play Wednesday, Dec. 9 as the Blue Devils host Louisville at 7 p.m., live on RSN-TV.

A Look at East Carolina...
    East Carolina currently owns a 1-2 overall record and is coming off a 66-45 setback to Georgia on Thursday.  Lashonda Monk made her 2020-21 debut against the Bulldogs and paced the Pirates with a team-high 17 points.  Taniyah Thompson (13.3) and Sierra DaCosta (12.0) are also averaging double-digit scoring.  

The Series with East Carolina...
    Duke and East Carolina will face off for the 17th time in program history, with the Pirates leading the series, 9-7. The two teams have met only twice in the last 26 years with the Blue Devils winning the last six meetings.
    In the last meeting, Duke won an 83-66 decision on Dec. 28, 2018 in Durham. The Blue Devils are 5-3 in games at home in the series.

Duke Versus the Atlantic 10...
    Duke owns a 23-10 record against American Athletic Conference opponents – Cincinnati (0-1), East Carolina (7-9), Houston (2-0), SMU (1-0), South Florida (3-0), Temple (7-0), Tulane (1-0) and Tulsa (2-0). The Blue Devils have won 22 straight contests against the American Athletic Conference.  

Three Keys...
    1)  Duke is riding a 62-game win streak against non-conference opponents from the state of North Carolina.  The Blue Devils have also collected 55 straight home wins against non-conference teams from North Carolina.
    2)  Duke will open the season without fans and media in Cameron Indoor Stadium due to COVID-19.
     3)  Against WCU, Duke tied a school record with 13 made three-pointers and set a record with 33 attempts.  

Storylines/Other Blue Devil Notes...
    •    After scoring 33 points all of last year as a rookie, Jaida Patrick has scored 30 points through two contests on the season.
    •    Duke features two players averaging double-digit rebounds on the season and two Blue Devils rank in the top six of the league -- Onome Akinbode-James (13.5 - second), Jade Williams (10.0 - sixth).  Duke is the only school with two student-athletes in the top seven.  Williams also ranks tied for first in the ACC with 6.0 offensive rebounds a game.
    •    Duke is averaging 19.5 assists a game on the season, which ranks second in the ACC. The 1.56 assist/turnover ratio is also second.
    •    In just her second contest in a Duke uniform, graduate transfer Sara Anastasieska collected a game-high 23 points as she drained 5-of-13 three-point field goals against Western Carolina.
    •    Duke hit 57.6 percent from the field against Longwood, which was the highest field goal percentage in a season opener since the Blue Devils hit 58.8 percent against East Tennessee State on Nov. 23, 1991.
    •    Kara Lawson's playing career has her in elite company as she is one of only three NCAA Division I women's basketball coaches to play in a NCAA Final Four, win an Olympic Gold Medal and win a WNBA Championship (Lindsay Whalen of Minnesota and Cynthia Cooper-Dyke of Texas Southern).
    •    All five Duke starters reached double-digits in the scoring column in the season opener for the second straight season.
    •    Junior Onome Akinbode-James pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds, while scoring a career-high 15 points against Longwood.  It marked her third career double-double and she now has notched one double-double in each of her three seasons with the Blue Devils.
    •    Duke's 94 points in the season opener were the most in a season opener since 1998 at Liberty in the 2016-17 campaign.
    •    Sophomore Jada Claude came off the bench and played 28 minutes against Longwood and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds, while scoring a career-high seven points.  She hit 3-of-5 field goals.

Last Meeting...
    The Blue Devils collected an 83-66 victory over East Carolina on Dec. 28, 2018.  Miela Goodchild collected 19 points as she drained 5-of-6 treys, while Haley Gorecki added 26 points and 11 rebounds.  Duke outscored the Pirates, 32-16, in the third quarter to pull away.  Jade Williams (6 points, 4 rebounds) and Onome Akinbode-James (6 points, 8 rebounds) also saw action.  

Career Highs for the Blue Devils...
    A total of six different Blue Devils registered career highs in the season opener against Longwood, while those six student-athletes had a total of 20 career highs.
    Jaida Patrick posted eight career highs (minutes, FGM, FGA, 3PFG made, rebounds, points, assists and steals), Onome Akinbode-James (FTM, FTA, rebounds, points), Jade Williams (assists), Miela Goodchild (FGA), Jada Claude (FGM, 3PFG attempts, rebounds, points) and Uchenna Nwoke (points, steals).
    The Blue Devils added 15 new career highs in the second contest against WCU -- Williams (rebounds, assists), Vanessa de Jesus (minutes, FGM, 3PFG made, 3PFG attempts, FTM, rebounds, points, assists), Sara Anastasieska (FGA, steals), Claude (3PFG made, Nwoke (rebounds, assists).

Six Blue Devils Averaging 10+ Points...
    Duke currently features six Blue Devils averaging double-digit points through two contests.  The Blue Devils and North Carolina are the only two ACC teams to feature this.  In fact, no Associated Press top 25 teams have six players averaging double-digit scoring.
    Leading the Blue Devils has been Vanessa de Jesus (15.0), Miela Goodchild (15.0), Sara Anastasieska (14.5), Jaida Patrick (14.0), Onome Akinbode-James (11.5) and Jade Williams (10.5).

Williams Dishing the Rock...
    Through two games, senior center Jade Williams has dished 14 assists and averaging 7.0 assists a game, which leads the ACC and ranks 11th nationally.  Williams is the only post player in the top 10 of the ACC assist rankings.  She is nearly averaging a triple-double with 10.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists.  Williams' eight assists against WCU is the most in the ACC this season.

Freshman Impressive Early...
    Through two contests to open the season, Duke rookie Vanessa de Jesus has been impressive averaging 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 0.5 blocks.  She has had only three turnovers in 68 minutes on the season.  In Sunday's contest against WCU, she had 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists and only one turnover in 37 minutes. She started the game 6-6 from the field, including 3-3 from three-point range
    In the ACC stats, de Jesus ranks tied for 18th in scoring. third in field goal percentage (.688), fifth in assists, tied for 13th in three-point field goals made (2.0) and tied for sixth in assist/turnover ratio (3.0). She became the first Duke freshman to start at guard in their first game since Mikayla Boykin in 2017.  Her 13 points were the most by a freshman that started their first game since Rebecca Greenwell had 17 in 2014 at Alabama.
    Overall, de Jesus is the 30th Duke freshman to start her first collegiate game.
