ABOUT THE SPARTANS: San José State opened its season Dec. 9, with a win against Fresno Pacific. The Spartans have since dropped their last four games, including suffering a series sweep at the hands of Utah State. Richard Washington is the team's leading scorer at 22 points per game, adding 5.2 rebounds. The Spartans are holding opponents to 30.4 percent from three-point range, but are surrendering 53.3 percent shooting inside the arc.

SERIES HISTORY: Boise State leads the all-time series against San José State 34-3, including a series sweep last season. The Broncos claimed a 28-point win in Boise, led by 27 points from Derrick Alston, Jr. On the road, Boise State tallied 29 assists, its most in a game since 2007.

RUNAWAY BRONCOS: Boise State completed a series sweep of New Mexico last week in emphatic fashion. The Broncos won the series opener, 77-53, using a 25-5 run midway through the second half to coast to victory. The 24-point win is Boise State's largest margin of victory in a conference opener since the 1995-96 season. Boise State built on that performance with a 37-point win two days later, 89-52, the Broncos' fifth-largest margin of victory in a conference game in program history.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Derrick Alston, Jr. was named the Mountain West Player of the Week for his performance last week, leading the Broncos to a series sweep of New Mexico. Alston averaged 21 points, five rebounds, 4.5 assists and two steals per game, while shooting 77.3 percent from the floor and 75 percent from three-point range.

STREAKING: Boise State is riding a six-game winning streak into its series against the Spartans. It is the Broncos' first six-game winning streak since December 2017. Boise State has not reeled off a seven-game win streak since the 2016-17 season.

I'LL TAKE THAT: Boise State has registered at least seven steals in each of its first seven games of the season. It is the first time the Broncos have had at least seven steals in seven consecutive games since the 2009-10 season.

SHOOT AT YOUR OWN RISK: Boise State is limiting opponents to 37.7 percent shooting from the field, including 26.2 percent from three-point range. The Broncos have held five opponents to less than 37 percent shooting in their first seven games of the season. They held four opponents under 37 percent all of last season.

FILL IT UP: Boise State started Mountain West play by putting on a shooting clinic in its series against New Mexico. The Broncos shot 57.7 percent from the field in the opener, then stepped up to shoot 60 percent in the second game. It is the first time in Leon Rice's 11 seasons as head coach the Broncos have shot at least 57 percent in consecutive games.

EFFICIENCY IS CONTAGIOUS: Derrick Alston, Jr.'s 22-point performance against New Mexico (Dec. 23) marked the 77th time in the last 11 seasons a player has scored at least 22 poins on 10 or fewer field goal and free throw attempts, combined, against a Division I opponent. Alston is the third Bronco to accomplish the feat during that span, joining James Webb III (Jan. 18, 2015, at New Mexico) and Justinian Jessup (Dec. 28, 2019, vs CSUN). Boise State is the only school in the country with three such performances in the last 11 seasons.
