Big news for chicken finger fans: NYC’s beloved Sticky’s Finger Joint opens its first fast-casual location in Philly next week.

Sticky’s is scheduled to arrive in the Mantua neighborhood of West Philly (3300 Fairmount Avenue) on Tuesday, December 8, marking its first expansion outside of New York and New Jersey state lines. The fast-growing chicken shack was born in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village in 2012, and its foray into Philly marks its 13th location to date. The small, seatless setup is engineered for takeout and delivery only, which fits nicely into a pandemic-era world as indoor dining remains off limits in Philly.

Hours are noon to 8 p.m. daily to start, which will be extended by a bit in a few weeks. The delivery radius stretches to nearby towns of Brewerytown, Fairmount, Logan Square, Mantua and Spruce Hill University City. Sticky’s plans to curb late-night munchies once surrounding college students return to campus.

Diners choose from small, medium, and large portions of crunchy (or grilled) fingers and bite-sized poppers made with farm-raised chicken free of antibiotics and hormones, along with a non-poultry option of crunchy cremini mushrooms. Any order can be placed on a bed of Cajun or regular fries cooked in a crispy batter.

Wacky specialty baskets well suited for stoners include “chicken and waffles” (bite-sized waffles, chicken poppers, and graham crackers) and “popper nachos” (chicken poppers, pico de gallo, and house tortilla chips).

The open-faced “Carlos’ Hot Chicken” plants fiery fingers singed with the notoriously hot Carolina Reaper atop potato bread.

Crunchy, grilled, or veggie fingers also appear in sandwich form on a Martin’s potato bun, in wraps, or atop salads.

Chicken can be dunked into a dizzying selection of 16 sauces made on-site, and diners get to pick three per poultry order.

The lengthy sauce section plays up global flavors and classic American favorites. Cupped options include Buttermilk Baby Ranch (billed as an “anti-Hidden Valley Ranch”); General Sticky Tso, a riff on the American-Chinese sauce; a Peruvian-leaning cilantro and jalapeño variety; and a swirling spin on smore’s (half chocolate, half marshmallow).

Sauces also star in over-the-top orders of fries. “Fiesta Fries” are slathered with mac sauce (cheddar cheese with diced jalapeño) and Thai sweet chili, joined by taco seasoning and sesame seeds. The spuds section also includes truffle Parmesan, bacon mac, and s’mores fries topped with crushed graham crackers and marshmallow.

In the spirit of giving, Sticky’s will donate a small chicken basket to Philly’s Boys & Girls Club for every one sold in December (or add $5 at checkout to donate one). Sticky’s shares a West Philly building with another recent Big Apple arrival. NYC celebrity chef Franklin Becker debuted two ghost kitchens slinging pizza and hummus at the same address last month.

The Philly debut comes on the heels of some legal drama for the brand. In August, Sticky’s founder Paul Abrahamian sued father-and-son co-owners Michael and Jon Sherman to the tune of $25 million for allegedly mismanaging development and pushing him out of company leadership.
