Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson offered kind words to Pete Carroll, his former head coach with the Seattle Seahawks, after news broke on Wednesday that the 72-year-old will no longer be running the team.

Wilson started at quarterback for the Seahawks from 2012-2021. Carroll coached Wilson during that entire time, and the duo helped guide Seattle to its first-ever Super Bowl win, two NFC titles and five NFC West crowns.
The Seahawks traded Wilson to the Denver Broncos in March 2022. Carroll is now out as Seattle's head coach two years later, signaling the end of a great era of Seattle football. He will remain with the Seahawks as an advisor.
Carroll told reporters that it was not his decision to leave, and he further added that he's still interested in coaching.

At this moment, there are six head coach openings outside Seattle: Los Angeles Chargers, Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots, Washington Commanders, Tennessee Titans and Las Vegas Raiders.
It's hard seeing Carroll going to the Pats, where owner Robert Kraft fired him after a brief head coaching stint in the late 1990s. But it's certainly possible that he heads elsewhere.
Funny enough, Wilson's days appear to be numbered in Denver, which benched the nine-time Pro Bowler near the end of this past season. It's not inconceivable to think the two could link up somewhere, although chances are that doesn't happen.
In the end, it's a bittersweet ending to a great era in Seattle, and now the Seahawks forge ahead as they search for their next head coach.
