MERIDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A man has died after his car went off the highway and landed in a park Saturday in Meriden, according to authorities.
State police said 19-year-old Benjamin E. Morales, of Meriden, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 691 around 2:50 p.m. While on the Exit 1 ramp, troopers said Morales went off the road and hit a cable barrier before going down the embankment.
According to state police, the vehicle rolled over, and Morales was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His car landed on the soccer field at Kronenberger Park, according to Meriden police. All activities at the park were canceled on Saturday. The park reopened for normal activities on Sunday.
The Exit 1 off-ramp and Route 66 East at Exit 1 were closed but have since reopened.
