ST. GEORGE — A fishtailing 25-foot travel trailer being hauled by an SUV resulted in a multiple rollover incident on Interstate 15 but no significant injuries to the occupants.
Around 12:15 p.m. Friday, Utah Highway Patrol troopers were called to a crash scene on I-15 north at mile marker 15, according to UHP Sgt. Joe Pastore. A 2010 Toyota Sequoia was pulling a 25-foot travel trailer/toy hauler while in the middle lane when the trailer began to fishtail.
“The driver was unable to keep the trailer under control and was forced off the right side of the road, where it rolled multiple times,” Pastore said.
Traffic was backed up northbound while the scene was cleared. The trailer was twisted and mangled on the roadside, and the occupants’ property was visible amid the rubble.
Four occupants were in the Toyota SUV at the time of the crash. Pastore said they all were treated at the scene and released. Each individual was wearing a seatbelt and no injuries were reported. It also was apparent the airbags successfully deployed. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The far right lane was closed for approximately 45 minutes, slowing traffic near the Hurricane exit. No citations were issued, and the incident is currently under investigation.
Utah Highway Patrol, Washington County Sherriff’s Office, Washington County Police Department and Washington Fire Department responded to the incident.
This report is based on statements from law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
