Live Scoring | Squire Creek Golf and Country Club

The High Point University men's golf team begins its season this weekend at the Jim River Intercollegiate at Squire Creek Golf and Country Club in Choudrant, La., hosted by Louisiana Tech.

"We just came off one of the best preseasons I've been a part of as a coach and I think the team and myself are excited about the possibilities of that translating to the course," head coach Brady Gregor said of his team entering the season.

The Field
High Point is the only Big South school in the field that only features Francis Marion as another school from the Carolinas. Two SEC schools will be in action in Louisiana with LSU and Tennessee in the field.

The rest of the field includes Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Chattanooga
Houston, Lamar, Little Rock, Louisiana, two teams from host Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee State, Rice, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, Troy, ULM, UT Arlington, UTSA, and Western Kentucky.

Squire Creek Golf and Country Club
Squire Creek Golf and Country Club is a private, members-only club that features an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Tom Fazio. The par-72 course plays 7,105 yards from the back and was named one of the top 10 'Best New Courses in America' by Golf Digest in 2004.

Format and Schedule
The Jim Rivers Intercollegiate is a three-day tournament with 18 holes played all three days. Play begins Sunday (Sept. 12), with the final two rounds taking place on Monday (Sept. 13) and Tuesday (Sept. 14). Sunday and Monday's rounds are slated to begin at 7 a.m. while Tuesday's final round will start at 8 a.m.

Last Season
High Point had a strong regular season in the spring but couldn't carry it over to the Big South Championship, finishing in ninth place. This will be the Panthers' first fall tournament since November 2019 after last year's golf season was pushed in its entirety to the spring season.

New Faces
HPU's lineup this week features three new faces. Graduate students Avery Price (Georgia Southern) and Stuart Fuller (Wofford) make their debuts in the Purple and White after transferring in this summer. Local freshman Charlie Barr will also be making his collegiate debut in Louisiana.

"We have three new faces in Charlie, Avery, and Stu in our top five right now who came right in and immediately became an impact in our golf family," Gregor continued. "Adding them to the great summer Christian had by Monday qualifying and then making a cut on the Korn Ferry Tour, along with Drew almost making the US Am brings lots of optimism to the team. That being said, we only have one goal this year and that's to be the best versions of ourselves that we can be and the rest will take care of itself."

UP NEXT
The Panthers head north for the Badger Invitational hosted by Wisconsin in Madison at the end of the month (Sept. 26-28) before playing out the final three tournaments of the fall season in the Carolinas.
