A tractor trailer went off the roadway and rolled over Tuesday afternoon blocking the northbound U.S. 127 exit ramp at M-57 interchange for several hours.
According to Gratiot County Sheriff Mike Morris, the tractor and trailer separated after it went off the roadway with the tractor hitting a tree and the trailer rolling over.
The driver, Ian Borda, 46, of Sylvania, Ohio, was transported to MidMichigan Medical Center – Gratiot in Alma for treatment of minor injuries, Morris said.
It isn’t clear what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway, he added.
The trailer, which was carrying plastic pellets, was left at the scene for the trucking company to empty and remove.
Borda was wearing his seatbelt and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, Morris said.
Borda was, however, cited for careless driving, he noted.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Ashley Fire and Rescue, MMR, Gratiot Towing and the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division.
