HANCOCK COUNTY — One adult man is in critical condition following a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Mt. Comfort Road and County Road 900N in McCordsville.
The accident happened at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 6. The man, who has yet to be identified, was airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle.
The crash involved a 2002 Suzuki motorcycle and a 2017 Jeep Patriot. The Jeep was traveling northbound on Mt. Comfort Road, and the motorcycle was traveling southbound, Capt. Robert Harris of the Sheriff’s Department said. Evidence at the scene indicates the Jeep turned into the path of the motorcycle.
The drivers were the only people involved in the crash. The juvenile driver of the Jeep was not injured and has cooperated with police, submitting to a chemical test due to the serious nature of the crash, Harris said.
The name of the driver of the Jeep is not being released since the person is a juvenile. Officers are working to identify the motorcyclist and notify his family. His name will be released after his identity is confirmed and family has been notified of his condition. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor, but the investigation is ongoing, Harris said.
The intersection of Mt. Comfort Road and 900N was closed for approximately 2½ hours while officers from the McCordsville Police Department and the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team investigated. Officers from the Fortville Police Department and New Palestine Police Department, as well as fire and medical personnel from Buck Creek Township and Vernon Township fire departments assisted with the crash.
