CORAL GABLES, Fla. --- The FGCU baseball team (22-15) was unable to muster enough offense in a 6-0 loss to Miami (23-13) at Mark Light Field on Tuesday.
"That is the best set of arms we've seen all year," FGCU head coach Dave Tollett said. "They were throwing plus velocity all night. Despite only striking out five times, we just couldn't get anything going offensively. Miami was the better team in all aspects tonight."
Offensively, Joe Kinker went 2-for-3 with a walk to lead the Eagles, who totaled three hits and three walks as a team. It was the 12th multi-hit game of the season for the sophomore, who has now reached base in a team-best 12 straight.
Despite allowing three first-inning runs, Gus Carter (0-3) was able to go five innings for the Eagles. He struck out five and walked none while allowing eight hits and four runs. Tyler Shuck, Jason Woodward and Najer Victor combined to hold the Canes scoreless over the final three plus innings.
Jake Smith (1-0) was credited with the win for Miami, who used six pitchers and held the Eagles hitless over the final four full innings.
The Green and Blue will return to The Nest for a weekend series against North Florida, starting with a Friday night tilt at 6:30 p.m.
