LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 11 Kansas State hit a season-high .360 and Shelby Martin registered her 3,000th career assist in the Wildcats' straight-set victory (25-16, 25-20, 25-13) over Texas Tech on Saturday at United Supermarkets Arena.

Brynn Carlson led all players with 11 kills while hitting a season-best .429. Freshman Jayden Nembhard logged eight kills on 17 swings without an error for a .471 efficiency to give K-State (8-4, 8-4 Big 12) its fifth victory over the last six matches. The Wildcats never trailed over the final two sets in sweeping the season set from the Red Raiders (3-9, 3-9 Big 12).

"I thought it was a really well-balanced effort in all phases," said head coach Suzie Fritz. "Any time you can get that kind of separation, it's key. We were better in serve and pass. We were, offensively, more productive. We were better defensively and our transition game, in the last two matches, I was really pleased with.

"A lot of times when rallies last a little bit longer, what you do in transition and in some of the spontaneous situations can dictate the outcome of the match. I thought we were really solid and played consistently in all phases."

The Cats hit .333 or better in all three sets, producing 41 total kills on only 86 swings (10 errors). Holly Bonde hit .357 (6 kills, 1 error, 14 attacks) to round out three players with at least a .350 hitting percentage.

The K-State defense limited TTU to just 33 team kills, forcing 19 errors for a .137 efficiency. The Cats owned a 46-33 edge in total digs, led by Mackenzie Morris' nine. Kadye Fernholz paced all players with four total blocks (1 solo, 3 assists).

Martin, a senior transfer in her first season at K-State, dished out 28 assists to join the 3,000-assist club and is currently fifth among active players with 3,022 career assists. Martin also collected eight digs and five kills.

"I think it's an incredible achievement by her over the course of her career," Fritz said of Martin's milestone. "It says a lot about her capabilities as a player and we are proud of her."

The Red Raiders scored the match's opening point, but that would be their lone lead of the day. K-State would go on a 10-3 burst midway through the first set, including a five-point scoring run behind the serve of Loren Hinkle.

In the opening-set victory, the Wildcats hit .355 and got multiple kills from five different players. Carlson tallied four kills on eight attacks without an error in the set while Bonde and Martin each added three kills.

Another five-point unanswered run in the second set, this time on Fernholz's serve, turned a two-point lead into a seven-point advantage at 13-6. Later, Nembhard's fifth kill of the set would hand the Cats a two-game lead. Nembhard hit .556 in set two as she did not commit an attacking error on nine swings.

K-State sprinted out to an 11-3 lead in the third set, a run that included eight consecutive points, and later owned a sizable 13-4 advantage. Martin tossed up a pair of aces in the final set while Carlson pocketed four more kills.

Texas Tech managed five kills against six errors for a -.032 attacking percentage in set three.

Brooke Kanas and Samantha Sanders each recorded 10 kills to lead the Red Raiders. Reese Rhodes had a team-high eight digs for TTU.

Texas Tech's losing skid is now at six matches, as K-State sweeps the season series for the first time since 2016.

The Wildcats return home for their final two-match home series, as they host TCU on Friday and Saturday at Bramlage Coliseum. Both matches are set for 6:30 p.m. starts and will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and the ESPN app. Fans can also listen to Rob Voelker call the action on News Radio KMAN (93.3 FM, 1350 AM) and at K-StateSports.com/watch.
