For more than 10 years Santa Fe City Fire Department (SFFD) has sponsored a toy drive that has provided toys for thousands of New Mexico’s most vulnerable children. This year, with all of the challenges that the pandemic has presented to the Department, they weren’t able to organize their annual event.
Rollin Jones from SFFD, who has organized the event for the last 10 years, started looking for just the right organization to make sure that the event would still happen. His personal connections put him in touch with EXIT Realty Advantage NM in Los Alamos. Brokerage owner Lance Eaton jumped at the opportunity to make sure the toy drive would still happen and his team of brokers let him know they were all in.
The annual toy drive supports Christmas for kids from nine Northern New Mexico children’s organizations including: Casa Familia Family Shelter, Santa Fe Indigenous Center, Santa Fe Dreamers, Santo Domingo Social Services, Presbyterian Medical Services Family Health, Villa Therese Clinic, Children, Youth, & Family Department, St. Elizabeth’s Homeless Teens Shelter, and Las Cumbres. This year EXIT anticipates supporting more than 700 kids.
How can you help? The COVID-19 pandemic is one of our biggest hurdles to toy collection this year, so we have created easy, safe methods to collect for our kids. Visit https://exittoydrive.com/ for several options. You can click on shopping links for specifically requested items, which will ship directly to EXIT’s Los Alamos office for distribution. There are also links for local businesses where items can be purchased. We encourage folks to keep it it local as much as possible! Corporate sponsorship is also a focus. If your company would like to make a contribution or adopt an organization, please contact us.
The toy drive will run from Nov. 28 to Dec. 18. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at Los Alamos Fire Department Stations 3, 4, and 6; just look for the big blue bins out front for safe, contactless drop-off. New unwrapped toys can also be dropped off at the EXIT office in Los Alamos at 1615 Central Ave, Ste 100. Just the lobby is open and gifts can be left under the tree.
Santa Fe drop-off locations include ANY Santa Fe City Fire Department. There will be boxes outside each station for contactless drop-off. Once able to open, Opulent, in DeVargas Center will also be available for toy drop-off. Espanola drop-off locations include Espanola Police Department stations; look for decorated boxes out front!
