MANHATTAN, Kan. There are a few final hoops for K-State women's golf to jump through before leaving town on Friday, the latest in a weeks-long string of adjustments, new procedures and general headaches in an on-again, off-again lead up to the season. For head coach Kristi Knight, the opportunity to play, even an abbreviated fall schedule which she officially announced Wednesday, will be worth the hassle.

"All along we've respected the possibility that we may not get to play this fall so the fact that we're here, the fact that I'm stressed out about testing is a blessing," Knight laughed. "It's definitely a new thing, but when I worry about us getting through the testing before we leave, I have to remind myself that it's a great problem to have - No. 1 we're able to be tested and No. 2 we're able to go compete, we're very thankful for that. It's been challenging and a little frustrating at times - the unknown - but everybody here at K-State is doing everything they can. We're excited, looking forward to it."

The Wildcats open the 2020-21 season at the Schooner Fall Classic (Sept. 28-29) at Belmar Golf Club in Norman on Sunday, a 54-hole event that will feature every Big 12 squad along with North Texas and Arkansas State. K-State will go on to compete in the Oklahoma State Cowgirl Classic at Karsten Creek on Oct. 22-23 to finish up the condensed fall season.

"Not knowing exactly has been a challenge, we had a great schedule laid out," Knight said. "Give credit to the golf coaches in the Big 12, we were in constant communication discussing what-ifs and felt it was important to have at least two events in Oklahoma that were accessible for us all to get there if we were allowed to play."

After the truncated fall slate, K-State has hopes of playing a semi-normal schedule in the spring, starting with a rescheduled Trinity Forest Invitational on Feb. 1-2 before heading west for the Westbrook Invitational (Feb. 21-22) on the Vistas Course in Peoria, Arizona. The Wildcats plan to close a busy February in Tallahassee, Fla at the Florida State Match-Up (Feb. 26-28) where the team will play alongside Mississippi State at the Seminole Legacy Club.

K-State will have three more tournaments in the month of March, returning to The Meadow Club and the Juli Inkster Invitational (March 8-9) in Fairfax, Calif., the last tournament played in spring 2020 before the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. K-State will co-host the Mountain View Collegiate (March 19-21) at The Preserve in Tucson, Ariz., alongside Missouri, and visit North Texas for The Bruzzy at Lantana Golf Club on March 28-29.

This year's Big 12 Championship is slated for April 18-20 at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas, with NCAA Championships selections and sites to be determined after. Pending any further adjustment, NCAA Regionals were scheduled to take place May 10-12 at regional sites with the NCAA Championship to follow May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

"Everything's in pencil, you need to have an eraser," Knight said. "You need to be prepared to deal with some changes and roll with it and do the best you can. Be ready for whatever opportunity and we've seen with our other sports, that's what it's about. The ladies have done a great job so far."

K-State welcomes an experienced squad back for the 2020-21 campaign, including five of its six top players according to scoring average, and added freshmen Napua Glossner (San Diego, Calif.) and Gabriela McNelly (Mico, Texas), along with graduate transfer Brooke Nolte (Melissa, Texas).
