HALFMOON - A Queens man was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs after police said he struck a state trooper's car that was pulled over on the Northway Monday.

At approximately 1:41 p.m., state police said a trooper was conducting a traffic stop on I-87 southbound, just south of the Twin Bridges, when his patrol vehicle was struck from behind by a Penske truck. The troop car was then pushed forward into the vehicle the trooper had stopped.

The trooper was in his patrol car at the time of the collision, and sustained non-life threatening injuries. He was seen at Albany Medical Center Hospital and then released. The driver of the car the trooper pulled over was not injured.

State police said the driver of the Penske truck, 52-year-old Terrence Hudson of Queens, has been charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and second-degree reckless endangerment.

All southbound lanes just south of the Twin Bridges after Exit 8 were closed for more than three hours until about 5:15 p.m.

Police are still investigating the accident.
