Motorists planning to use exit 13 at night in either direction of Interstate 290 in Worcester this week may want to seek an alternate route.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation said Monday morning that exit 13 in both directions will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. this week.

The eastbound exit, including the on and off ramp, will be closed during those hours on Tuesday and Wednesday. The westbound exit will be closed Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Drivers on I-290 east looking to depart the highway at exit 13 will instead by detoured to exit 17. Drivers wanting to enter I-290 via the exit 13 on ramp should use exit 11.

Drivers on I-290 west wanting to leave the highway will be detoured to exit 11. Motorists looking to enter I-290 west should use exit 17.

MassDOT advised that the closures will cause delays and reduce speed on the highway due to the roadwork.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and may be impacted due to an emergency situation, MassDOT said.
