Prince Edward’s wife Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, said she wants Meghan Markle and Prince Hary to “be happy” in the wake of their royal exit.
“I just hope that they will be happy,” Sophie told The Sunday Times of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who relocated to Los Angeles with their 1-year-old son Archie earlier this year.
In January, Meghan, 38, and Harry, 35, announced their plans to step down as senior members of the royal family. They completed their final round of royal engagements in March. A month later, the Sussexes revealed the name of their new foundation, Archewell.

Sophie, 55, also spoke about her experience joining the royal family, as she had a middle-class upbringing.
“Remember, I’d had five years to adjust,” Sophie said, per People. “And for our six-month engagement I was even staying in Buckingham Palace. Not that you necessarily know how it will pan out.”
Edward — the youngest of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s four children — and Sophie married in 1999. They have two kids: daughter Louise, 16, and son James, 12.
As for Meghan and Harry’s love story, which began in 2016, reports surfaced over the years of clashes between the former “Suits” star and palace staffers. Sophie said the royals do their part in helping newcomers adjust.
“We all try to help any new member of the family,” she said.
Meghan and Harry are still getting acclimated to their new life in California, recently hiring Tyler Perry’s security team after a drone scare. The couple has been staying at the filmmaker’s $18 million mansion.
