La Repubblica journalist Matteo Pinci has reported that Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi is nearing an exit from the club.
The former Torino man joined the Giallorossi last summer on 1 July but has endured a number of episodes at the club since arriving.
Petrachi’s first slip-up occurred in July to announce the contract renewal of Edin Dzeko. The Lecce-born director was quoted as saying: “When talks started with him (Dzeko) in May” — which proved to be a problem for him because he was still under contract with Torino during that time.
Furthermore, Petrachi has also clashed with manager Paulo Fonseca after he burst into the dressing room at half time during the Giallorossi’s loss against Sassuolo.
The latest episode, though, came last week when president James Pallotta neglected to mention Petrachi’s name in an interview with the club’s official website.
“Fonseca has a great relationship with the players and he works really well with Guido [Fienga], Manolo [Zubiria] and the entire Roma staff,” said the Bostonian, as he omitted Petrachi’s name.
Reportedly, Petrachi was furious and wrote a message to Pallotta following the interview. The club now believes that they have just cause to sack the 51 year-old, who could be on his way out after less than 365 days.
