WATERBURY — The state Department of Transportation plans to close lanes on Interstate 84 eastbound, along with Route 8 southbound’s Exit 31, in connection with the ongoing Mixmaster rehabilitation project.
The lane closures on I-84 will begin June 21 and continue overnight, Sunday through Friday, for the foreseeable future. One lane on I-84 eastbound will be closed starting at 8 p.m., and two lanes are scheduled to close beginning at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen at 6 a.m. the following day.
The ramp from Route 8 southbound to I-84 eastbound (Exit 31) will be closed for three nights beginning June 21. The closure will occur between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Once reopened, the ramp will be reduced to one lane for continuing construction activities.
Drivers are asked to follow this detour: Route 8 southbound should take Exit 32 onto Riverside Street. Take a right onto Sunnyside Avenue (which turns into Chase Parkway) and the I-84 eastbound on-ramp will be on the right.
The $153 million Mixmaster rehabilitation includes structural upgrades to the network of ramps and bridges that comprise the Mixmaster, which serves as the junction of I-84 and Route 8. It’s scheduled to be finished by Sept. 10, 2022.
