House GOP campaign arm adds 13 Dems to midterm 'Exit List' - New York Post

With Republicans focused on taking back the House of Representatives in next year’s midterm elections, the National Republican Congressional Committee announced Tuesday it had added more than a dozen Democrats to its “Exit List” of lawmakers who could be unseated in 2022 or otherwise walk away from Congress.

The 13 representatives placed on the watch list include three New Yorkers: Reps. Jerry Nadler, Tom Suozzi and Sean Patrick Maloney — the latter the head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

“Every House Democrat has a choice to make over the Thanksgiving holiday: retire or lose. So far 17 Democrats have made the smart choice to quit,” NRCC chair Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) told Fox News, which first reported on the effort.

The list’s expansion follows a spate of announcements by Democratic House members of their intention to retire or run for other office.

Over the weekend, Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas) became the 17th House Democrat to announce they would not seek another two-year term in 2022 — and the 10th to step away from politics completely.

The other 10 Democrats added to the RNCC list are Ed Perlmutter of Colorado, Sanford Bishop of Georgia, Richard Neal of Massachusetts, Dan Kildee of Michigan, Dina Titus of Nevada, Annie Kuster of New Hampshire, Marcy Kaptur of Ohio, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn of South Carolina, Jim Cooper of Tennessee and Steven Cohen of Tennessee.

The NRCC initially highlighted 27 Democratic House members when the “Exit List” debuted in March. Of those members, eight have said they will not run for Congress next year.

The announcement of the “Exit List” additions is being accompanied by a new digital ad campaign titled “The Most Expensive Thanksgiving Ever” that attacks Democrats over spiking inflation.

Democrats hold an eight-seat majority in the House, while the 50-50 Senate is in their hands only by virtue of Vice President Kamala Harris having the ability to break tie votes.

Republicans are feeling confident of taking back both the House and Senate following victory in the Virginia gubernatorial race and a stronger-than-expected performance in the New Jersey gubernatorial race.

Earlier this year, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) predicted more Democratic retirements as the holidays approach.

“Once you get past Thanksgiving and members go home, and they’re Democrats, and they’ve been challenged before, and they’re going to get beat up, Congress is not that great,” he told Fox News.
